A look ahead at the week's TV schedules.

IT MAY be hard to believe now, but when The Inbetweeners launched on E4, some viewers took one look at the characters’ school uniforms and assumed it was just for kids.

But by the time the sitcom about a group of foul-mouthed sixth formers had reached Channel 4 it had picked up a following among people whose own school days were long behind them.

Perhaps it’s because unlike the worryingly cool kids of Skins, The Inbetweeners reassures us there are still teenage boys out there for whom binge-drinking and casual sex remain a distant dream — they’re still busy trying to work out how to get served in pubs and string a coherent sentence together in front of an attractive girl.

Now, with Will, Simon, Jay and Neil about to make their leap to the big screen, Inbetweeners Top 10 Moments, on Channel 4, Friday at 10.25pm, looks back at some of the sitcom’s funniest bits.

We may be well into August, but it’s finally going to feel like summer because Big Brother is back.

Yes, this year’s TV hasn’t been quite the same without the daddy of all reality shows to keep us entertained and fans owe a debt of gratitude to Channel 5 for deciding no matter what Channel 4 might think, there’s still life in the format.

It seems quite a few famous agree, as the latest run is kicking off with Celebrity Big Brother: Live Launch, on Five, tomorrow at 9pm.

As you might expect, there have been some changes. For a start, we no longer have Davina McCall to bellow over the eviction night crowds.

Instead, the job has gone to Brian Dowling who, as the winner of the second series of the show and man crowned the Ultimate BB housemate, should have a pretty good idea of what the contestants are going through.

Another long-running reality show which refuses to die is The X Factor, which returns to ITV1 on Saturday at 8pm.

If you’ve been hooked on this contest since 2004, you’ll know the drill — music mogul Simon Cowell pulls his trousers up and trawls the country in search of the next pop superstar.

Except this time Simon is in the States prepping his American version of the show, so there are a few changes this year.

Regular judge Louis Walsh and host Dermot O’Leary will be joined by three new judges taking the places of Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue.

They are former Destiny’s Child star Kelly Rowland, Tulisa Contostavlos from N-Dubz and singer-songwriter Gary Barlow.

The Take That veteran will be putting 20 years of experience to good use as he and the rest of the team sit through months of auditions, nail-biting boot camps and eventful studio shows.

The hopefuls are desperate for a shot at winning the lucrative recording contract and the global fame which goes with it.
