CELEBRITY reality shows are always full of more who’s that than A-listers, with being the daughter of famous TV presenters or being the ex-squeeze of an England footballer enough to get you on the box.

Dancing On Ice has not disappointed in this regard, with six out of the original 16 contestants failing the celebrity test.

Quite simply, if my mum has not heard of them then they are not a celebrity.

In skating terms, this applies to Chloe Madeley, Sam Attwater, Elen Rivas, Dave Vitty, Johnson Beharry and Dominic Cork (and I’m still not sure about him).

But Laura Hamilton has always been a celebrity for my mum because she once met the 28-year-old when Laura gave me a lift home one day and stopped at chez Fisk to use the bathroom.

As a children’s TV presenter Laura was a who for people who do not have children under five.

And with all her fans seemingly tucked up in bed by 6.30pm she found herself in the bottom three during the first week before the competition had officially begun.

This night was officially the series launch night and for me will always be known as gin night.

Laura got the night’s top score from the judges but her skating dream was almost cut short by the lack of public votes.

Luckily for my nerves and sanity, and her career, I blearily watched as she survived the skate-off and then helped my housemate sink a few bottles of Prosecco and quite a few gins to celebrate.

Pleasingly the first week high score was not a fluke and she has been at the top or near the top of the leaderboard every week since then with routines packed full of a dazzling array of moves, tricks and lifts.

This Sunday’s final will be an exciting one with her going up against Chloe Madeley and arch rival Sam Attwater and you can be sure all three will be pulling out their best moves.

Obviously this will be complete with footage showing them falling over in rehearsal then saying how worried they are about things going wrong on the night.

But once the votes have been counted and the winner announced, the real contest begins — the one for a much higher public profile.

Laura has had her heart set on mainstream TV presenting for quite some time and used to want to present property shows, in the days when people could afford to buy houses.

She has openly said she’s doing Dancing On Ice to further her career and has been linked with the Xtra Factor presenting job.

Watch this space for news on that and make sure you watch and vote for Laura in Sunday’s final.
