Serbian cellist Maja Bogdanovic — fresh from captivating audiences at New York’s famous Carnegie Hall — will open Sydenham International Music Festival.

At the concert, which marks the young musician’s UK debut, she will play Shostakovich’s dramatic Cello Concert No 1, Rossini's Italian Girl in Algiers and Haydn’s Symphony No 104: The London with St Bartholomew Festival Orchestra.

Other highlights include a dance-led children’s concert of Prokofiev’s gorgeous Peter and the Wolf — animal fancy dress encouraged — and a number of ensembles in The Dolphin pub’s informal surroundings - an idea pioneered by the festival three years ago.
