Bromley Music Society is to give a farewell concert after 50 years of staging performances in the borough, writes Jenny Whyte.
Made up of 80 volunteer members, the society has staged five concerts each year in Bromley since 1959.
Chairman George Hill said: “It’s a shame not to be able to give young performers opportunities anymore but we’ve had some excellent years and put on some fantastic concerts.”
The final concert will be performed by the classical Wihan Quartet from Prague, with James Boyd on viola, who have performed in Bromley many times over the last 20 years.
Mr Hill said: “We wanted to end our season with them. They’re great friends to the society and the greatest musicians we’ve had the pleasure to have.”
The Wihan Quartet play United Reform Church, Widmore Road, Bromley, May 8. 8pm. £12/full-time students free.
