OLYMPIC champion James DeGale praised its atmosphere at his most recent bout, while this summer it will host gigs by The Saturdays, children’s entertainer Justin and some great comedians.

Glow is one of Kent’s best kept secrets and is ready to shine forth.

You might even argue that this particular bright spot has been hiding its light under a bushel for far too long.

Glow has been hosting events at Bluewater since 2011 and is arguably the most versatile venue anywhere in the region.

It has already hosted many successful events and shows, but despite this success many local folk are still not aware just how much is going on or what the future might hold for Glow.

The venue, offers at the same time, a large, open space which can easily accommodate a large, enthusiastic crowd and yet somehow retains an element of intimacy so the crowd feels close to, and part of, the action.

The upper hall is 3,200 square metres and can be adapted to meet the needs of almost any event. It can hold anything up to 2,700 people.

The lower hall is 2,000 square metres.

Most recently I attended the championship boxing and was lucky enough to see the current WBC Silver champion James DeGale retain his belt in some style.

As a venue Glow worked extremely well with the lower hall working acting as an ideal reception where the audience could get a drink, have something to eat and discuss the upcoming fights before making their way up to the ring and arena on the upper floor.

The venue certainly seemed to suit DeGale who declared: “It was a tremendous atmosphere and it’s a great venue to headline at.”

So, with several major boxing matches already under its belt, what’s next on the horizon for Glow?

In July and August, it is holding its first annual Summer Live! series.

There is a fantastic comedy roadshow booked with great comedians ready to take to the Glow stage. Lee Nelson, Richard Herring, Dave Spikey and Mark Watson are just some of the big name stars among a whole host of comedians from Mock the Week, 8 out of 10 cats and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow.

Brainiac Live, Colin Fry The Happy Medium, West End Anthems, Blake, Amelia Lily with Loveable Rogues, Justin Live, Dreamstage are just some of the events taking place and we haven’t even reached the end of August! Oh yes, and The Saturdays are on August 10, a Saturday naturally.

Commenting on the forthcoming Summer Live, Glow’s venue director Michael Watton said:  “As the recent boxing and successful trial at the end of 2012 demonstrate, there is great demand from consumers for live entertainment at Glow.

“Summer Live, however, takes things to a new level.  For the first time, we are creating a purpose-built 2,700 seat arena that will host a great range of acts offering something for everyone.

“Adding to the experience is the intimacy of the venue, with the furthest seat from the stage just 50 metres away.  This makes for a much more engaging experience.  Combined with Bluewater's shops and restaurants, Summer Live means people can add an exciting new dimension to a visit to Bluewater."
