News Shopper’s Three Whiches slurped their way through some of the best fruit smoothies.
CHRISTMAS parties and dinners take their toll on even the most svelte figure and the beginning of the year sees many people joining gyms and health clubs in a bid to shift that post-pudding bulge.
Here at Shopper Towers the Three Whiches are also on a health kick.
So after testing crisps and cake we moved onto a more healthier option, the smoothie.
As always, in the interest of a fair test we didn’t know which smoothie was from which supermarket.
So which one was berry-licious and which one made us want to grab for the Christmas chocolate? Read the verdicts of the Shopper’s Three Whiches, aka Alison Masters, Helen Backway and Carole Hoggan.
Morrisons Strawberry and Banana Smoothie 79p
AM: Bitty and yet watery all at the same time. This smoothie is my least favourite. 2/5
HB: This wasn’t a smoothie, it was tasteless mush. Watery and bitty with no discernable fruit flavour. 1/5
CH: I found this very watery but very bitty. This was tasteless and very bland. I really didn’t like this. 1/5
Waitrose Smoothie Strawberry, Raspberry and Banana £2.69
AM: This smooth drink has a refreshing, tangy strawberry taste and isn’t too thick. It is, however, quite sweet. 4/5
HB: This smooth shake gave my sweet tooth a run for its money. One to savour rather than guzzle and enjoy the strawberry flavour which is there in abundance. My favourite. 4/5
CH: This was very runny and tasted quite sweet, but I could taste the strawberry in this one. My favourite, I could drink lots of this one. 4/ 5
Tesco Strawberry and Banana Smoothie £1.84
AM: This has a much thicker consistency but an earthy, bland flavour. I’m not a fan of this surprisingly weak contender. 2/5
HB: This had a nice thick consistency but not much else. It smelt really fruity but when I came to taste it the flavour wasn’t there. 2/5
CH: The smell was really nice but disappointingly it didn’t taste of anything and I had trouble trying to distinguish what fruits were in it. 2/5
Sainsbury’s Strawberry and Raspberry Smoothie £1.94
AM: I considered using a spoon to sample this smoothie, which is very thick. The bitter but not unpleasant taste pleases my sharpness-craving palette — tasty. 3/5
HB: One for those with a less sweet tooth, this is zingier than the other offerings. Where were the berry fruits though? 3/5
CH: This was very thick and had a zing to it. Couldn’t taste the strawberry much, but it was OK. 3/5
In the end our taste buds were tickled by Waitrose’s fruity mix.
One last word of warning, smoothies may be full of fruit but don’t overdo as the high concentration of fruit means more sugar.
