Sidcup born Quentin Blake, one of Britain's best loved illustrators, is set to return to his home town to give a talk about his life and successful career.

The event on June 1 is part of a creative project hosted by Holy Trinity Church in Lamorbey and supported by Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance.

Mr Blake, who is best known for illustrating Roald Dahl, is expected to give an illustrated talk about his early memories of Sidcup, his relationship with the stage and his work.

It is the first in a series of cultural events run in partnership by the church and the drama school, entitled Sidcup Words and Music.

Father Philip Wells, vicar of Holy Trinity Church, said community engagement is essential to the life of the local church.

He said: "We very much hope that this will be an event for the whole community and will develop our artistic life in Sidcup."

He said: "Starting with a celebration of Quentin Blake, who was born and raised in Sidcup, is a terrific place to begin our initiative.”

In addition to the talk, Bruford Youth Theatre will be holding a free performance and storytelling event based on Quentin Blake’s work at 11am on June 6 at the College’s Lamorbey Park campus.

Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School will also be exhibiting a selection of Quentin Blake’s illustrations throughout the week.
