THE last cork has been popped and thank you said and now it’s time for us to reflect on what is said to be the biggest night in British music – The BRITs 2008.
The biggest night? I think not.
Yes it was ok viewing but largely it was a bit of a shambles with less than average performances from the Kaiser Chiefs and Leona Lewis and a whole lot of rambling between.
However, the highly anticipated performance by international sensation Riannah and the Klaxons blew me away. Not only was the music great but the visuals followed suit.
Mark Ronson and of course Macca put in the usual 100% and gave us great sets.
Highlight of the night for me was Amy Winehouse’s unexpected performance of Love is a Losing Game which was mesmerising. You can tell by her pronunciation and movement on stage she’s on
the road to recovery – and boy it shows.
And now to the winners, or losers as it would seem.
Take That, Arrogant Monkeys and the Foos all walked away with two leaving me disappointed the likes of Bat for Lashes, Klaxons and Arcade Fire empty handed.
Deservedly Leona walked away with none and Kylie picked up Best International Female.
Over night my mind changed about Kate Nash who picked up Best Solo Female. She is a shining example of a product of the Brit School which is what it’s all about so good on her.
Arctic Monkeys made boobs of themselves during their second acceptance speech meaning ITV had to cut to Fearne Cotton backstage, Vic Reeves was an embarrassment and Sharon Osbourne needs to get a few
tips off Kelly about presenting.
All in all a mediocre ceremony boosted by some brilliant performances, although they were few and far between.
