Sim City Creator - Nintendo Wii

I don't know what it is, but every game I have played on the Wii lately, seems to have a cute element to it. That isn't necessarily a bad thing – with games like 'Wii Sport' and 'Wii Fit', but at times it seems a little inappropriate. 'Sim City Creator' feels like one of these moments.

The idea behind this game is to create a city and to maintain it. You have to set up your residential areas and your industrial areas, you have to make sure there's a hospital, a school and some form of a financial income to keep everything running smoothly. You need to create leisure areas such as parks, sports centres and cinema's to keep your residents happy.

The whole idea of this is very involved and is the sort of thing that should appeal to the mature gamer, so why in gods name have EA jumped on the current Wii bandwagon and added a cute and child friendly element to it.

At the very start of the game in “free mode”, you have to employ several advisors who are supposed to help you. After a while, they prove to be both useless and annoying. I'm guessing that the developers thought that this might add a humorous element to the proceedings.

This game also suffers from poor controls. The wii remote controls both the design of the city and the scrolling of the page, so quite often you'll find yourself scrolling away from your desired location – which is quite infuriating.

All in all, the game feels like a failed opportunity. With the bad controls and the mis-directed cuteness, one cannot begin to fathom what EA were thinking when developing this game. Had they spent a bit more time harnessing the controls there might have been a pretty decent game hiding behind all the cute fluff.

Verdict: 4 out of 10
