THE SHAKESPEARE 4 Kidz (S4K) theatre company happens to be making a timely appearance in Shopperland. This month the Royal Shakespeare Company launched Stand up for Shakespeare, a new initiative to introduce children as young as four to the language and themes of the Bard's work by bringing the material to life in schools.
S4K goes someway to meeting those aims by presenting young audiences with easy-to-understand, musical versions of the famous plays, where they belong, on stage.
During its two-date stint at The Orchard, Dartford, S4K will present a kid-friendly The Tempest and, ambitiously, Hamlet.
Some of the original prose remains (the to be or not to be' speech for example) but is mostly digested by the cast to go with with lots of action and comedy.
But is Stand up for Shakespeare a good idea?
March 31, The Tempest. April 1, Hamlet. The Orchard, Dartford. Call 01322 220000 for tickets and times.
