IF FASHION journalists are to be believed (I read everything and anything in the papers - even how to look like Cheryl Tweedy for £10) the recent London Fashion Week was a bit confused. There was no definite statement such as brown is the new black'; as designers came up with ideas, not clothes.

But rest assured pubgoers, I can tell you Forest Hill is the new Blackheath.

My evidence for this is my trip to All Inn One, Perry Vale, Forest Hill.

I was greeted with stripped bare floors rather than the usual scummy sticky carpets of the boozers I usually frequent.

Furniture was a mixture of wooden chairs and tables with comfy sofas for those wanting to relax.

They were mostly occupied by stylishly dressed 20 and 30-somethings soaking up the atmosphere, while supping on wines and beers.

Where it is most like some of the more upmarket Blackheath pubs I have been to is the food.

There is a separate restaurant area boasting dishes which rarely, if ever, make it on to most of the pub menus in Shopperland; gnocchi, duck breasts, guinea fowl, venison and wild boar terrine.

As PubSpy rather than GastroSpy, I chose to stay close to the bar and sample the food they served for those seeking an informal dining experience.

The bar menu of jacket potatoes, sandwiches, omelettes and steaks was much more familiar to me, although even here there were exotic touches.

I've had ham and cheese paninis before but never with prosciutto and mozzarella, sundried tomato, basil and red onions.

Accompanied by my well-poured pint, it was a nice twist on a familiar dish although, as always with paninis, I was left feeling a little hungry.

Next time I visit the new Blackheath' (Copyright PubSpy 2008) I will do so with more cash. You may spot me spying' the whole restaurant menu.
