GOOD friends who had two things in
common joined forces and created a business to solve their problems.
Mother-of-two Frances Spoor, aged 35, from Darenth and fellow mother and friend
Belinda Pasco, aged 38, from Greenhithe have entered into a joint business venture together, after finding it hard returning to work since taking a break to raise their young children.
The duo found themselves in the same predicament of having to return to work but with the difficulty of paying childcare costs.
Frances said: "Belinda and I knew we both had to get back into work to support our families financially, but found it
difficult because of childcare fees during school breaks.
"Neither of us have close family nearby, so there was nobody to take care of our
children while we worked."
In a bid to resolve the problem they were faced with, Frances and Belinda decided to start up a small business, Buttercups, a parental supervised pre-school play club.
Frances said: "We used to take our
children to pre-school groups once a week or so, but noticed a lot were being closed down.
"With that we decided to start our
own so that we could earn an income and have our children with us at the same time."
Frances previously worked as a PA in marketing and feels this gave her and
Belinda a slight advantage in terms of what was needed to get their business up
and running, but admits she did feel
apprehensive.
She said: "Neither of us had any experience of starting a business. It was
completely new to us.
"We had to create a business plan in order to secure a loan from the bank, so I did some research on the internet about what makes a good plan."
The pair distributed leaflets and got
positive feedback from parents interested in attending the group.
Frances said: "We will be running three 90-minute sessions each week and also offer our services for childrens parties.
"The most important aspect was to have our children with us while we worked and now we have the opportunity to provide our community with a valuable service where parents can come and meet other parents in their situation and children can roam and play."
It took just six months to get their
business up and running from the first
initial idea proving anything is possible if you put your all into it.
