Siouxsie Sioux changed from a quiet schoolgirl growing up in Chislehurst into an icon of the punk era.
Born Susan Ballion in May 1958, she went to Mottingham Secondary School and was described as "shy" by pal Jacqui Gale.
As the Sex Pistols took the world by storm in the late 1970s, she first came to prominence as one of the Bromley Contingent, an oddly-dressed group of fans who followed the Pistols everywhere and even onto the set of the infamous Bill Grundy TV talk show.
She adopted the name Siouxsie Sioux and formed a band the Banshees - their first hit was Hong Kong Garden, which was named after a Chinese restaurant in Chislehurst High Street.
Siouxsie and the Banshees went on to record 12 studio albums and score 17 more chart hits, including Christine and Happy House.
Her striking appearance and rebel image stood her out from the crowd and influenced other performers, leading to her being honoured as an 'icon' by Mojo magazine.
She later went on to form another band, The Creatures with her husband Budgie (Peter Clarke, drummer from the Banshees).
