The man behind the most famous band in the world was a pupil of The Ravensbourne School, formerly Bromley County Grammar.
As producer on all the Beatles' LPs between 1962 and 1970, Sir George earned himself a place in music history.
Martin, who was born in 1926 in London, harnessed the Beatles' genius and turned the band into a hit-making unit which would change the face of music forever. He became the most successful and influential record producer of all time.
In all, Martin produced more than 700 recordings during his 50-year career. He produced jazz, rock, classical and comedy recordings, as well film soundtracks. He was the force behind an unprecedented 30 number one hits. His 30th hit was Elton John's Candle In the Wind, recorded after Princess Diana's death in 1997.
Martin bowed out of music production in 1999.
