Build your bargain home
BUILDING your own home is one way to avoid the horror stories surrounding the UK's property market and it can be done for under £15,000.
The superstore Argos is selling flatpack homes made from Scandinavian whitewood for just £11,000.
With a delivery cost of £4.95, the 32ft by 16ft 10in house does not require specialist skills to build and comes with step-by-step instructions, according to the catalogue shop chain.
The prefabricated homes comprise double-glazed French doors and windows and a felt shingle roof. However, for homeowners wanting a bathroom and a kitchen they will have to fork out extra and plumb them in themselves.
For just under £14,000, purchasers can get their hands on the deluxe Helsinki model, which comes with underfloor heating and oak-laminate flooring.
Finnforest, the manufacturers, said it takes a day or two to put up and you need at least two people for some of the tasks.
Planning permission should be sought before building the flatpack homes and buyers are advised to build on concrete or compressed gravel foundation.
