Renting out rooms
MORE homeowners than ever are tackling the problem of increased mortgage costs by renting out rooms in their property to lodgers.
According to SpareRoom.co.uk, the number of homeowners looking to lodgers to bridge a shortfall in funds, by renting out a room, has doubled in the past 18 months.
The number of live-in landlords on the website has risen from 400,000 to 700,000.
SpareRoom spokesperson Matt Hutchinson believes it is a great way of generating extra cash.
"It can be the perfect short-term solution while you wait and see what the housing market does over the next year."
SpareRoom have devised an information website to deal with the influx of questions on the subject.
