Landlords remain important
BUY-to-let investors are vital to the health of the health of the housing market, according to the Association of Rental Letting Agents (ARLA).
In the latest ARLA Review and Index claims without these investors there would be little or no choice in the housing market.
The recent quarterly results showed 42 per cent of investment landlords have one or two properties to let and one in 10 have more than 10 in their portfolio.
Adrian Turner, the chief executive of ARLA said: "Our quarterly figures show investment landlords are in the business of residential letting for the long term.
"Without these investors, who have helped to save the private rented sector by re-financing it, there would be little or no choice in housing."
He added: "If that had happened, the probability is house prices would have risen further and the social rented sector would have buckled under the pressure."
The average life expectancy of property investments is 7 years.
