Informing all landlords
Stella Ererard and Joanna Mott from the Bromley Housing Initiative Team offer housing solutions
Stella Ererard and Joanna Mott from the Bromley Housing Initiative Team offer housing solutions

SOUTH East London Housing Partnership held a landlords' information day last week offering them the opportunity to find out the latest information about the lettings market.

The free training session where landlords were invited to drop in and peruse information on display was held at Lewisham Town Hall in Catford last Wednesday.

Organised by Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich, Lewisham and Southwalk councils which form the South East London Housing Partnership, the one-day event was an opportunity for landlords to find out about the current market trend, government thinking and key current issues such as local housing allowance and thermal comfort.

There were a number of organisations present, including informative displays by the various councils, London fire brigade, housing associations and the Residential Property Tribunal.

In addition, there were several seminars, lead by guest speakers, covering a range of topics, such as changes to the local housing allowance and how to be an effective buy-to-let landlord.

Richard Tacagni who has 12 years experience as a housing specialist and is the head of function housing at Local Authorities Coordinators of Regulatory Services gave a presentation about the future of the private rented sector, the direction it is heading and the government's current policy of thinking.

Private landlord Daniel Stone, 47, from Forest Hill, has four properties across south east London and thinks events such as these are invaluable.

He said: "Landlord information days are a great way to swot up on the latest housing legislations and an opportunity to find out more about different services, which could benefit landlords in the long run.

"I found the energy efficiency display of interest because Energy Performance Certificates are mandatory from the begining of October."

September sees the return of the ninth annual London Landlords Day, held at the Olympia Conference Centre, London.
