SYDENHAM: Mural designed and painted by students unveiled at Grove Centre
10:04am Thursday 8th October 2009 in Lewisham By Kelly Smale
A MURAL designed and painted by students to show the history of London has been unveiled.
Forty Year 9 pupils at Sydenham School, in Dartmouth Road, spent four months creating the artwork for the Grove Centre, Sydenham, which is used by nursery children.
The artwork is based on the students’ perspective of London in the past, present and future.
Ideas were based on the work of architect Zaha Hadid, who has designed one of the buildings for the Olympic Games.
Lewisham Mayor Sir Steve Bullock, Councillor Chris Best and Councillor Marion Nesbit attended an event to unveil a plaque next to the mural.
Visual arts teacher Kate Slipper said: “The wall was really dark and dull so the mural has made a change to the area.
“We wanted to use bold colours and designs to appeal to the nursery children and have encompassed local landmarks to stimulate discussion.”
