BROMLEY Council is planning to spend money to save money by investing £500,000 in energy efficiency projects.
It has already cut £80,000 of its annual spend by reducing the electrical voltage in council buildings and ensuring streets signs are only lit when it is dark.
Further projects are planned which should save an additional £140,000 every year including switching to more energy efficient lighting, replacing energy-intensive air conditioning where it is necessary with evaporative cooling and buying software for improving how the council manages its computers.
Resources portfolio holder Councillor Neil Reddin said: “These important invest to save projects demonstrate the council’s commitment to ensuring that efficiency savings help protect frontline service priorities during a time of austerity.”
