TWO trees have been planted in a park to celebrate a Jewish holiday.
A larch and a gingko were planted in Mayow Park, Sydenham, to celebrate Tu B'Shvat which marks the "New Year of the Trees".
Customs include planting trees and eating dried fruits and nuts, especially figs, dates, raisins, carob and almonds.
More than 30 people attended the joint event organised by Friends of Mayow Park, Bromley Reform Synagogue on Highland Road, Bromley, and Lewisham Council’s Green Scene.
Vice chair of Friends of Mayow Park, Alona Sheridan, said: “The gingko tree is associated with peace so it seemed appropriate to plant it near the synagogue.
“There was a real cross section of the community at the planting so we thought it went really well.”
Perry Vale ward Councillor Susan Wise and Sydenham ward Councillor Chris Best attended the event.
