FARNBOROUGH: Visiting hedgehogs help to halt 'decline'

PRICKLY visitors to an environmental education centre last weekend helped to highlight the plight of hedgehogs.

The BEECHE centre in High Elms Country Park, Farnborough, welcomed staff from Hayes’ hedgehog rescue centre, Prickles Hedgehog Haven, and their spiky patients on Sunday (June 7).

Hedgehogs are listed on Bromley Council’s Biodiversity Action Plan which seeks to highlight the species and its habitats.

Countryside and parks officer Nick Hopkins said: “This was a wonderful opportunity to discover more about our local wildlife.

“Hedgehogs seem to be declining and we hope that this event will inspire people to leave some space for wildlife in their gardens.”

The action plan aims to promote a borough-wide survey of the mammals, enhance the strongest populations of hedgehogs and provide advice for hedgehog-friendly gardens.

If you find a sick or injured hedgehog, contact the hedgehog haven on 0208 462 1168.
