CAPITAL GROWTH: More cash available to help people grow their own fruit and veg

THE second slice of cash for groups who want to turn a piece of underused land in London into a fruit and veg patch, is now up for grabs.

The money, £75,000, is part of the Capital Growth scheme encouraging Londoners to grow their own food .

People can apply online for sums of money between £200 and £1,500 for their project, which can even include using grow bags on land which has been concreted over.

As well as the cash, those taking part will also get practical help and support, including expert advice and access to training.

Since the scheme launched nin November 2008, more than 300 Capital Growth spaces have been created.

A competition has also been launched for schools who apply for a grant, and the top three will win a visit from a celebrity gardener, £500, plants and a wormery.
