ENERGY: Cash overflows for London Mayor's green projects

CASH to finance green projects across London is at record levels says London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Grants from Europe and other sources totalling more than £110m mean a variety of environmental and energy-saving projects can continue to make the capital greener and more energy efficient city.

The money will be spent on project such as the RE:NEW programme aimed at making 200,000 homes, including some in Bexley, more energy efficient, and RE:FIT which helps public organisations overhaul their buildings to cut their energy use.

In partnership with the London Development Agency, cash will also be spent on creating 10 low carbon zones, a green enterprise zone and expanding the Green Grid as well as supporting the Mayor’s programmes for increasing the number of trees and improving London’s parks.

Mr Johnson is says the projects will also create new green companies and jobs.
