A GREEN delivery van company is celebrating after increasing its fleet of environmentally friendly vehicles.

Eco Van and Man provides a London-wide moving and delivery service using electric and low emissions vans.

A company spokesman says the three new vans will help the company keep pace with increased public demand for a green alternative to conventional diesel or petrol-burning delivery vehicles.

Eco Van and Man Manager Darren Pardy said: “The new business has really taken off and it seems the idea of using a green moving and delivery service has really captured people’s imagination.

“We’re growing so quickly that we’ve already had to order more vehicles and the way things are going it won’t be long before we’ll need to increase the size of our fleet again.”

The company was launched at the beginning of the year.

The Mayor of London has announced plans to promiote electric powered transport over the next five years.

Boris Johnson’s proposals include fitting 25,000 charging points for electric vehicles across the capital by 2015.

The Government has also pledged to invest £250m in the UK’s electric vehicle market.

Mr Johnson said: “The time for simply talking about electric vehicles is over. We need real action on the ground to make the electric vehicle an easy choice for Londoners.

“I am committing millions to install the infrastructure needed for when, in just a few years time, these vehicles become much more widely available.”

Eco Van and Man’s vehicles are already exempt from the London Congestion Charge in recognition of its contribution to cleaner air and the company is also investing in additional charging points.

The company’s development director Jonathan Hood has welcomed the Mayor’s plans and says extra charging points across the city will help encourage more Londoners to use electrically powered vehicles.
