GREENWICH pupils took part in the final of a competition to encourage youngsters to learn more about green technology.
Students from St Thomas More Roman Catholic Comprehensive School, in Footscray Road, Eltham, were congratulated by Deputy Mayor of London Kit Malthouse for taking part in the final of the London Schools Hydrogen Challenge, on June 17.
The competition encouraged 11 to 14-year-olds to find out more about hydrogen technology, one of a range of less polluting fuels that could help improve air quality and cut carbon emissions.
More than 500 students from schools across London had to complete a series of online lessons during their science classes to be entered into a draw for the grand final.
The final saw pupils and teachers conduct experiments to show hydrogen technology in action on a miniature scale.
Mr Malthouse said: “It is great to see London’s school kids learning about new technologies that have the potential to drastically improve our environment in the future.”
The first prize of £1,000 went to Waldergrave School in Richmond.
