A FESTIVAL is being held this month to make London a cleaner, greener and healthier capital.
The Love London festival runs until June 21 and coincides with tomorrow's World Environment Day.
It aims to make London a sustainable capital in time for the 2012 Olympics.
Events taking place include the Glades Goes Green week, with a series of environmental events and displays running until June 8 at The Glades shopping centre in Bromley.
One of the week's highlights is an exhibition of work by sculptor Anthony Wilson, including as a three-foot frog and four-foot knight, created from a variety of recycled materials.
On Sunday at the Lesnes Abbey Information Centre in Abbey Road, Belvedere, there is the chance to learn how to use traditional woodcraft hand tools and create something from wood.
On the same day there is a fun day of children's activities including face painting and a bouncy castle at the Horniman Gardens in London Road, Forest Hill.
Later on in the month, the Scrap Kingdom Party is being held in General Gordon Square, Woolwich, on June 20.
Among the environmentally friendly activities organised are a toy swap and a parade involving 250 primary school children, who will be wearing costumes and playing instruments made out of recycled materials.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "Well done to Love London for putting on this fantastic festival to encourage fun, easy ways to make our capital a greener and cleaner place.
"Most people know I love cycling, which is just one of the great activities being celebrated.
"There is no better time to take to two wheels than now, when its summer time and the sun is out.
"I am delighted to lend my support to events such as these which work towards my own goal of making London a more pleasant city."
