Trust finds low energy solutions

LOW energy lightbulbs are being fitted in historic buildings across the area.

The National Trust, a conservation charity which protects historic homes and gardens, will carry out the work in all its buildings.

Money saved on energy bills is to be ploughed back into further green initiatives.

During fitting, the trust needs to avoid some low energy lightbulbs using ultraviolet light, which can damage delicate paintings, textiles and wallpaper in the old houses it maintains.

It also has to be wary of how the bulbs look in historic settings.

Head conservator at the trust, Katy Lithgow, said: "If the trust can solve the problem of finding low energy lighting solutions in its houses, then the same is probably true for householders across the country."
