Public showing concern for the environment
RESEARCH shows Britons consider the environment the third main global issue, after poverty and war.
A survey of 2,350 adults by YouGov for KPMG, which provides audit, tax and advisory services, found 90 per cent of people have become more
environmentally conscious over the past five years.
The study found 86 per cent recycle more at home, 72 per cent use more energy-saving devices such as low-energy light bulbs and 70 per cent use fewer plastic bags.
But bigger changes as to how people travel are yet to take place, with only 15 per cent of people flying less, and nine per cent having bought a low CO2 emission car.
KPMG's head of corporate social responsibility Mike Kelly said: "The green message has certainly got through to people and behaviours in Britain have changed.
"The bigger and more fundamental behaviours such as transport attitudes are much harder to tackle and will take time."
