WINNERS of a competition to design a jersey aimed at promoting cycling in schools have been given their prizes.

Ten-year-old Alisa Kyrpo from Henwick Primary School, Henwick Road, Eltham, was chosen as one of four runners-up in Transport for London's (TfL) cycle jersey design competition.

Alisa was rewarded with a framed version of her jersey and joined first prize winner 11-year-old Cameron Thomson at The Sports Cafe, in Haymarket, central London.

A total of 309 schools across London took part in the competition, which was open to children aged seven to 11 and aimed to promote cycling and environmental issues.

TfL's head of cycling, walking and accessibility Peter McBride said: "Cycling in London really is undergoing a revolution.

"We're doing a lot of work with schools to encourage more young people to get on their bikes and the competition is a great way to promote sustainable transport to young people."
