Opinions on waste plans wanted

PEOPLE living and working in Bexley are being asked what they think of the borough's rubbish and recycling systems.

Last year, the borough produced more than 138,000 tonnes of rubbish and 44 per cent of it went to landfill sites.

Bexley Council has now produced a waste strategy and wants to hear people's views.

The main points of the strategy include slowing the growth in the amount of rubbish; encouraging reuse; increasing recycling to 50 per cent by 2015; diverting rubbish to facilities which can recover materials or energy and reducing the amount of biodegradable waste going to landfill.

The strategy can be viewed at bexley.gov.uk/wastechallenge and hard copies are available to read at libraries and council offices.
