Lesnes Abbey Conservation Volunteers (LACV) is looking for help on Sunday when it does some fence repairs.

The task will involve learning how to restore the traditional fencing protecting wildflower enclosures.

The group will provide the equipment and drinks, but bring your own packed lunch.

Children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers should wear suitable clothes and sturdy shoes.

Meet at the information centre at the Lesnes Abbey ruins, off Abbey Road, Abbey Wood, at noon. Work should finish by 3.30pm.

  • Car adverts will now need to show what impact the vehicle makes on the environment.

    Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of vehicles will have to be prominently displayed.

    The Department for Transport has made the ruling in response to a legal letter from environmental group Friends of the Earth, which claimed EU law was not being correctly interpreted.

  • Wildlife experts are asking householders to bury buckets of woodchips in their gardens to provide one of the country's most endangered creatures, the stag beetle, with emergency shelter and food.

    They live on rotting wood and roots before growing into a full-size beetle.

  • Environmental charity Trees for Cities is nearly halfway towards achieving its aim of planting a million trees in London in time for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

    The trees will help counter London's pollution and add a touch of green to socially and environmentally deprived areas.
