RESIDENTS and children have shown their support for recycling by exchanging used plastic carrier bags for eco-friendly reusable cotton bags.
Lewisham borough residents and school children collected 4,500 plastic carrier bags to show their support for National Recycling Week, which ran from June 2 to June 8.
The week was organised by environmental business Waste and Resources Action Programme.
And the old plastic bags were exchanged for reusable cotton bags by Lewisham Council's recycling team in Lewisham town centre on June 6.
Children from Holbeach School, Doggett Road, Catford, collected 2,530 bags and will receive gift vouchers from Lewisham Council as a reward.
Pupils from Lewisham Bridge Primary School, Elmira Street, Lewisham, and St Mary's Primary School, in Lewisham High Street, also collected plastic bags.
WE asked for businesses to offer rewards to people who do good deeds. Then we asked people to start doing nice things to earn the rewards. One man has chosen to do both!
