Volunteer to help maintain meadows

10:50am Tuesday 24th June 2008

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help attract people and wildlife to local meadows.

Bexley Council and the Friends of Foots Cray Meadows are holding a public work day on June 28.

Helpers are needed to pick up litter along the river Cray, replace chicken wire on the wooden bridge in the wetland area, and lay logs and bark on footpaths in North Cray Woods.

A council spokesman said: "Anyone who appreciates the beauty of the meadows will see the day as an opportunity to improve the site alongside like-minded people."

Volunteers should meet at the Wildlife and Information Centre behind the restored stable block near the Rectory Lane car park at 10am.

Suitable clothing must be worn, including strong footwear.

Equipment is provided but volunteers should bring their own refreshments.
