Helping to remove river rubbish

BIKE parts, pipes, rope and even a complete hole-in-the-wall cash machine were found during a shoreline clean-up of one of the dirtiest stretches along the Thames.
Environmental charity Thames21 organised the event at Woolwich Dockyard, with teams spending three hours clearing the debris.
Thirty-two volunteers including families, Greenwich councillors, safer neighbourhood teams and members of London & Quadrant Housing Trust turned out to lend a hand.
A Thames21 spokesman says the spot has a
particularly bad litter problem.
He said: "It's probably one of the worst stretches of the Thames."
The event was part of the London-wide 90-day
Capital Clean-Up campaign, which encourages people to get involved in improving their environments.
A graffiti-removal day was held at Westcombe Park station as part of the campaign.
