Using traditional skills at historic wood

IT WAS a chance for people to learn more about traditional woodcraft tools and how to use them when members of Lesnes Abbey Conservation Volunteers (LACV) invited people to join them on one of their regular conservation events.
The volunteers help care for the flora and fauna in the ancient Lesnes Abbey woods bordering the abbey ruins off Abbey Road, Belvedere.
On April 27, LACV members were teaching helpers how to use the traditional tools the volunteers use for tasks such as mending wooden fences, repairing footpaths and hedge laying.
People were then able to put their new skills to use, by creating bat boxes to take home with them.
The LACV runs conservation activities at the woods every other Sunday and encourages members of the public to go along and help.
