Be early bird and catch dawn chorus

EARLY birds are being invited to enjoy the dawn chorus at a nature park.

Staff at Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park are celebrating Dawn Chorus Day on May 4 by inviting visitors to a morning of bird watching, from 6.30am to 8.30am.

The event, in its fourth year, is suitable for adults and children aged eight and above.

Senior park warden Joanne Smith said: "We always spot something unusual.

"Last year we saw about 30 different birds.

"A lot of birds which migrate are just coming back and they're really singing at this time of year."

Afterwards, tea and toast will be served at the gatehouse in Thames Path.

There is no need to book in advance.
