Check so-called organic toiletries

1:16pm Sunday 8th July 2007

Watch out for so-called organic or natural shampoos. Unlike food labelling, the toiletry industry has no regulations to prevent the misuse of these terms.

Natural ingredients such as amino acids and minerals are added to shampoos and conditioners to give hair a healthy-looking appearance.

But to stop them going off, synthetic preservatives are sometimes added too. Some manufacturers like Lush have true organic ranges, so it pays to check ingredients carefully.
