A GIANT mermaid sculpture made out of recycled material has been unveiled in Dartford.
The nine metre high statue, with a 14m wide tail, is in the middle of North Lake, at The Bridge development.
It marks the beginning of a sculpture trail, which will eventually comprise of 12 art pieces.
Artist William Jordan said: “The Mermaid represents balance within the natural world and she will be the guardian of the development.”
The mermaid sits on a rock structure, which will provide a habitat for water voles.
A second artwork, the Solar Tree, has already been installed outside the SusCon building and two further sculptures are underway.
Leader of Dartford Council, Councillor Jeremy Kite, said: "The Sculpture Trail will create a new amenity for Dartford and demonstrate that art can be both accessible and fun.
“The Mermaid is a fabulous sculpture and I am sure that it will be a landmark for Dartford.”
