PICKHURST Infant School took part in a Team Superschools-hosted event with a special visit from Olympic athlete, Darren Campbell.

The event, which was a fantastic success and was enjoyed by more than 300 children, was organised in association with Bromley School Sports Partnership.

Team Superschools have been inspiring youngsters to get involved in sport for 28 years, encouraging fitness awareness and involvement in regular exercise.

The children received an inspirational talk from Darren Campbell, who told them they could achieve anything if they work hard and believe in themselves. They then took part in a challenge course designed to encourage fitness and show how fun keeping fit can be.

Darren answered questions from the children such as how fast he could run, how many hours he trains, how many medals he has and what it is like to be in a sports stadium He amazed the children by telling them to look at the speedometer in their parents' car and when it reached 24mph, that was how fast he could run. There were also gasps of amazement at his cache of more than 200 medals.

This was a sponsored event designed to raise money for the school's fantastic new Adventure Trail fund, as well as supporting the Superschools Award Scheme, which gives financial assistance to talented young athletes in their chosen sport.

All the children took part in sponsored activities and a fitness circuit.

With so much emphasis being placed on children's awareness of health and fitness, the school realises the importance of encouraging active involvement in sport.
