A SUMMER of consultation about the future of post-16 education in the Bromley borough is set to draw to a close next week.

Councillors will meet on Tuesday (September 9) to discuss how best to allocate nearly £13million of investment.

The Children and Young People Policy Development and Scrutiny Committee at Bromley Council will discuss recommendations that would see Bullers Wood School for Girls and Darrick Wood School receive £1.7million each for their post-16 facilities.

The recommendations also suggest handing Newstead Wood School for Girls and Ravens Wood School £2.5million each, Langley Park School for Girls £2million and Hayes School £1million.

St Olave's and St Saviour's Grammar School have been earmarked for £500,000.

Director of children and young people services Gillian Pearson said: "There are growing concerns about our ability to maintain the momentum of excellence and innovation in our schools into the 21st century given the increasing constraints placed on many of our secondary schools' building infrastructure."

Schools were consulted about the proposals throughout July and a final decision on where to allocate the cash is expected this month.

Gillian Pearson added: "The capital needs of secondary schools is greater than the capital resoruces available.

"To assist in prioritising how the funding available should be used, the authority has undertaken a buildings assessment across secondary schools to determine the recommendations."
