Delayed exam results spark probe
THE Government has announced an investigation into why the results of national tests taken by children in Dartford and Gravesend and across the country will not be available until this week.
The results of the Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 national tests for seven and 11-year-olds should have been published on July 8.
But Children, Schools and Families Secretary Ed Balls says more time was needed to finish the marking and resolve some "technical issues".
Although some of the tests have been marked, Mr Balls said to reduce any uncertainty, it was felt the results should only be released when they were all available.
Mr Balls said he accepted the delay was "clearly unacceptable" and has announced an independent inquiry will be chaired by someone of "national standing".
