Opinions sought over Slade Green schools proposals

Cllr John Fuller Cllr John Fuller

AN OVERHAUL of schools is planned for Slade Green, with two tiers becoming one.

Bexley Council is seeking parents and carers’ opinions over proposals to make both Slade Green Infant School and Slade Green Junior School into primaries.

The council plans to refurbish both schools to make the facilities first class, as well as expanding them to allow them to accept new pupils.

Both schools would have two-form entry for pupils aged four to 11 and the junior school would become part of the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Federation, allowing pupils to go on to secondary school at the Federation’s Crayford Academy.

Bexley Council’s cabinet member for education, Councillor John Fuller said: “These proposals will create much needed pupil places in Slade Green, as well as offering a greater choice of primary education and the quality facilities our pupils deserve.

It is important that local parents and carers have their say in the changes to their children's schools.”

The transformation is part of a wider regeneration of Slade Green, which includes building 380 homes and community facilities.

A consultation period runs until July 23, and more information can be found online at Bexley.gov.uk/sladegreenschools.

Comments can be given online or on documents sent out by the schools, which will also be made available at Slade Green Library and council offices.

Fill in the surveys at www.surveymonkey.com/s/sladegreeninfantschool and www.surveymonkey.com/s/sladegreenjuniorschool.

Drop-in consultation sessions will be held at each school on Tuesday, June 26 – at Slade Green Junior School from 3pm until 4.30pm and at the infant school from 5pm to 6.30pm. Council officers and head teachers will be present, while the senior management team at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Federation will be at the junior school.
