STUDENTS took a step to reduce their carbon footprint with the installation of a wind turbine at their college.
The six kilowatt wind turbine which cost £30,000 was switched on at Swanley Technology College in St Mary’s Road.
A donation of £10,000 was made by The Co-operative with £14,000 coming from the government’s low carbon building programme.
Kent County Council contributed £12,000, with half going towards the wind turbine and the remainder towards the installation of solar panels at the school later this year.
Headteacher Julie Bramley said: “We are working on a number of initiatives to make Swanley Technology College greener and the switch-on of this impressive wind turbine is an enormous boost to our efforts.
“The turbine will reduce our carbon footprint, save us money on electricity bills and help us to inspire pupils about environmental issues.”
