THOUSANDS of students in London have recently received exam results and, for those who don't know what to do next, a rewarding career in sport and leisure could be the answer.

In less than two months, the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure will open, providing comprehensive information about careers, events and training in the sector.

Jamie Wilkinson, business development director for the National Skills Academy in London, says: "Active careers are becoming more and more popular, especially with recent sporting events like the Beijing Olympics highlighting the benefits of getting involved in this vibrant sector, whether as a professional or participant.

"The skills academy will offer flexible training options to benefit the learner, employer and training provider."

The National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure is coordinated by SkillsActive, the sector skills council for active leisure and learning, and led by employers, training providers and further education establishments.

The academy's website will include information, resources and a communication centre which can store and update an individual's learner account and personal training data. Learners will also be able to access a more traditional trainer-student environment at the regional hub - Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

Jamie adds: "Training will be highly personalised and prioritised to address our industry's most pressing skills issues from levels one to four.

"It will enable workers to gain technical and customer service skills as well as match relevant training to staff looking to progress into management and leadership roles."
