A TEENAGE hairdresser is a cut above the rest after scooping a top tresses title.

Laura Bailey, 18, from Eltham, won Junior of the Year in an annual competition organised by salon group, Graham Webb International.

And it was the first time a hairdressing student this young has won the title in the 20 years the competition has been going.

The second year hairdressing student has worked at the Graham Webb salon in Lee Green, which has won the title four times before.

As part of the competition, which was independently judged at the Graham Webb academy in Greenwich, Laura demonstrated a cut and colour and a fantasy hairdo.

For her cut and colour she did a "blond funky horseshoe" and for her fantasy hairdo she decided on a mother nature theme, with a dress made out of leaves, backcombed hair, green ribbons and plaits.

But Laura said she did not expect to win: "I was shocked."

The teenager snipped and blow dried her way to prizes which included £300, a pair of straighteners, scissors and a trophy.

Manager Steven Shorter said: "I was really proud. The girls we've had through in the last two years have been fantastic, the standards are getting a lot higher."
