Age:

56

Course:

Boxercise class

Where?

Walnuts Leisure Centre

Period:

Monday 7pm to 8pm and Wednesday 7.15pm to 8.15pm

Entry onto the course:

Everyone is welcome, there are no official entry requirements.

Reasons for choosing the course:

I have always exercised and I enjoy working out but I find the gym boring. This course enables me to have a more intense workout. It's good for building muscle strength, toning and general fitness levels.

Areas the course covers:

We build into the session with a 10 to 15- minute warm-up with stretches and jabbing. Then we pair up and have to do some circuit training including sit-ups, shuttle runs, punchbags and glove work.

The other students:

There are about 40 students on each day with roughly an equal male-female ratio. Ages range from late teens to people in their 50s.

Atmosphere:

It is an intense workout but the teacher makes it fun. She bullies and cajoles but in a good way so we're kept motivated. It's also fun because the session is done to music. We all get on really well and sometimes go out for drinks after a hard workout.

The future:

I started the course when it began 10 years ago and I plan to continue with it. The interaction is brilliant and because I go with friends we motivate each other.
