Course Taster
Foundation degree in learning support
Age:
Lisa Short
Course:
Foundation degree in learning support
Where?
It's a Greenwich University course taught at Orpington College
Period:
Two years
Entry onto the course:
Qualifications equivalent to A'Levels and you also need to be working in the area.
Reasons for choosing the course:
I attended an adult
education evening course and
wanted to continue studying to further my career. It fits in around my children and jobwhich is perfect. Also it gives me the option of studing for a third year to get a degree.
Areas the course covers:
The history of education, additional education needs and children's behaviour. We have to cover the
business side too.
The other students:
This is the first year this course has run so the class is small. Nearly everyone is a mature student and we're all female.
Atmosphere:
Our class are a great bunch of people and we always meet up if we have problems with our work. The quality of teaching is good as we are a small group and we benefitfrom more one-to-one time with the teachers.
The future:
Carrying on the course for a third year to get a degree is something I am interested in and then progressing to achieve a post graduate certificate in teaching. I know i definitely want to stay working in schools and with children.
