Lip-reading

Bromley Adult Education Centre

33 weeks
Entry onto the course:
You do not need to have any qualifications to enroll on the course. It is open for anyone who would like to learn lip-reading.
Reasons for choosing the course:
I recently lost my hearing and speech through a virus. Everyday life became quite difficult for me so I decided to learn to lip-read so I could have a better quality of life, being able to communicate with people better.
Areas the course covers:
It covers conversation of everyday life from paying for your shopping to asking for directions.
The other students:
There are about 22 students on this course, spanning across a variety of ages, from youngsters in their 20s right through to people of my age. All of the students are hard of hearing or deaf.
Atmosphere:
We are quite fortunate to have a very relaxed atmosphere in the classroom. Everybody is there with the same outlook, to learn how to lip-read to improve life in the future. We support and help each other and receive excellent teaching.
The future:
My plan is to continue with the course to improve my ability to lip-read. This will enable me to have a brighter future, making everyday situations a lot easier for me.
