Course Taster
Travel and Tourism
Age:
18
Course:
Travel and Tourism
Where?
Orpington College
Period:
Two years
Entry onto the course:
5 GCSEs including Maths and English.
Reasons for choosing the course:
I retook my GSCEs at Orpington College and decided I wanted to carry on there because I really liked it. Travel and Tourism caught my eye in the college prospectus and it was recommended to me by students on the course.
Areas the course covers:
There are 18 units. We cover all areas of travel and tourism from booking holidays to arranging transport for disabled clients. A large portion of the course is devoted to hospitality. We have a lot of group projects. Recently we were sent to the Peak District to give a presentation on promoting the area as a holiday destination.
The other students:
Our class has 12 students in it (only three guys). We are all aged between 16 and 19, some are straight from school and some have done foundation courses before.
Atmosphere:
It has a good atmosphere. We all get on very well. The class is relatively small, which means we have more one-on-one time with our teachers, who are all extremely helpful and dedicated.
The future:
I have applied to some London universities to continue studying Travel and Tourism.
